- Most of the 7.2 million lowest income working families spent more than half their income on housing.
- The number of families with chronic housing issues rose to 14.4 million between 1998 and 2001 - a 36% jump in three years, outpacing the 24% rise among renters.
- Since 1997, there has been a 60% rise in the number of working families who pay more than half their income for housing.
